Treatment & Diagnosis Services

In the field of neurooncology, special emphasis is put on the treatment of craniopharyngeomas, gliomas of the optic nerve, primary cerebral lymphomas, low-grade and high-grade gliomas, brain stem gliomas, cerebral metastasis, and cranial base meningeomas.

Functional Neurosurgery includes deep brain stimulation for the treatment of different kinds of movement disorders (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, Essential tremor, Multiple Sclerosis, Dystonia), deep brain electrodes for pre-surgical determination of epileptic foci, and the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia by percutanous thermal coagulation.

  • Motor cortex stimulation in pain syndromes
  • PET-controlled, stereotactically-guided serial biopsies of unclear cerebral lesions
  • Stereotactic puncture of tumor cysts and implantation of Rickham catheters
  • Interstitial radiosurgery by means of implanting temporary iodine 125 seeds in low-grade tumors and cerebral metastases
  • Stereotactically-guided ventriculocisternostomy in tumor-related occlusive hydrocephalus
  • LINAC radiosurgery of cerebral metastases, arteriovenous malformations, meningeomas of the cerebellopontine angle, acoustic neurinomas
  • Chemotherapy of brain tumors (first, second and third line, including individual therapies)
  • Treatment of pediatric brain tumors in cooperation with the Center for Child and Adolescent Medicine of the University Medical Center Freiburg
  • Preparation of a structured treatment concept (including chemotherapy plans) and determination of the required follow-up examinations
