Division of Neuropediatrics and Muscle Diseases

Our Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine staff has extensive hands-on experience and a well proven reputation in the sphere of neuropaediatrics and epileptology. The department of neuropaediatrics and muscle diseases deals with the diagnostics and therapy of all kinds of brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and musculature diseases in children, ranging from infancy to adolescence. These diseases include development disturbances, congenital diseases, pregnancy or childbirth complications and diseases caused by various infections or acquired as a result of traumas. We have also achieved considerable success in the treatment of various neurological disorders, including epilepsy, motor apparatus impairments such as infantile cerebral paralysis, muscle diseases, as well as in the treatment of meningomyelocele.

Our Department is involved in pre-operative epileptic diagnostics and operative epileptic therapy. Here, we are equipped with ultramodern medical technologies and deal in the treatment of those children in which medication is already considered impossible to administer. Our diagnostic rooms function on a round-the-clock basis and allow us to detect and control the slightest changes which take place in the brain.

Operations are performed in cooperation with the Department of General Neurosurgery of the University Medical Centre Freiburg. Final post-operative rehabilitation activities are carried out in specialized rehabilitation clinics in the surrounding area.
