Money Matters
As an authorized department of the University Medical Center Freiburg, IMS handles all organizational tasks for foreign patients receiving treatment in Freiburg, including cost estimates and final invoices.
Currency of payment is EURO.
Cost Estimate
Before travelling to Freiburg, you will receive a detailed cost estimate which includes the statutory costs for treatment, doctors’ fees as well as costs for laboratory tests and diagnostic radiology. Patients coming to Germany from abroad for medical treatment are obliged to pay the treatment costs (100% of cost estimate) in advance as a deposit. Cost estimates usually vary from the final invoice dependent on extra examinations, tests or longer stays that may incur.
Final Invoice
After about 8 weeks, you will get a detailed final invoice listing all items. Any credit balance will be paid back to you via bank transfer or to your credit card. If there is a debit balance, we will ask you to pay it without delay.
The cost estimate always contains a note stating that amounts paid in excess will be reimbursed.
