Photon Counting CT

For more than one year, the Department of Radiology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg has been home to a fully digital, innovative, next-generation computed tomography machine.

It was established as part of the Photon Counting Consortium (PC3 Consortium) coordinated at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. The PC3 Consortium is an integral part of the Forum Gesundheitsstandort (Forum Health Location) Baden-Württemberg.

In "photon counting", the high-resolution direct conversion of incoming photons produces a digital signal that can be directly evaluated. Thus, photon-counting CT enables significant advances in terms of radiation exposure, optimized imaging and resulting improved tissue characterization. It is thus considered to be the basis for substantially improved digital patient care and for using the generated data for future therapeutic approaches.

Forum Health Location [Gesundheitsstandort] Baden-Württemberg

The Forum Gesundheitsstandort Baden-Württemberg was founded in 2018 by the initiative of Minister President Kretschmann to form closer links and networking between the fields of research, healthcare industry and healthcare provision, and to develop Baden-Württemberg into a healthcare location of the highest possible level.

The forum currently brings together more than 500 experts from hospitals and care facilities, research institutes and universities, as well as biotech, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies from Baden-Württemberg. All of these players want to work together with the state government in a strategic process to help strengthen the healthcare industry and further improve healthcare for people in Baden-Württemberg.
