Prosthetic Dentistry
The Department of Prosthetic Dentistry of the Medical Center - University of Freiburg is one of the largest university centers for dental prostheses in Europe.
As specialists in our field, we offer you a comprehensive range of treatments at the highest scientific and technological level.
In case of missing or hopeless teeth and unsatisfactory aesthetics, function or phonetics of your natural or already restored teeth/implants, our team of board-certified prosthodontics will be able to address your personal needs.
Treating multifaceted cases presents our daily clinical routine. Applying new digital techniques like contactless intraoral scanning, face scanning, virtual and three-dimensional implant planning enables us to provide aesthetic and minimal-invasive restorative dentistry, implant prosthodontics and functional interventions in a more precise and time-efficient manner.
Even in the case of serious problems that require a multidisciplinary treatment, we will find a solution to meet your individual needs together with our neighbouring departments of Orthodontics, Operative Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery.
As a well-organized team, we take care of your aesthetic and functional makeover. Patients can be seen on an individual basis by the department chair and senior faculty members in a unique private practice setting employing the most advanced diagnostic and technological procedures available.
Diagnostic & Treatment Services
We treat our patients by means of a synoptic treatment concept, which integrates the functional, esthetic and restorative aspects of the patient as a whole. Within this concept, we focus on:
Maintaining proper dental hygiene is essential for preventing oral health issues such as cavities or gum disease.
Even with diligent brushing and flossing, plaque can accumulate over time, leading to potential dental problems. Our skilled hygienists utilize advanced tools to gently remove these deposits, leaving your teeth clean and polished. Prophylaxis improves the appearance of your teeth and helps prevent gum disease and maintain optimal oral health. Furthermore, our dental hygienists are dedicated to instruct you on the best oral care practices, including brushing and flossing.
Regular check-ups allow us to monitor your oral health and provide personalized recommendations for clean and healthy teeth.
In-house fabrication of prosthetic reconstructions.
Fixed prosthodontics involve dental crowns and bridges that are permanently attached to existing teeth or oral implants. These restorations are made of esthetic ceramics that closely resemble the appearance of your teeth and provide a natural look. Due to improvements in adhesive technology and material science, minimally invasive treatment protocols can be realized. Compared to the traditional tooth preparation design for a crown, only a significantly reduced portion (i.e. only the compromised area) of the tooth structure needs to be removed.
After consultation, examination and data acquisition, an individual cost estimate will be provided depending on the scope of the required therapy.
Facial scanning to reduce the amount of necessary appointments for try-ins.
In the case of missing teeth, oral implants can be a helpful treatment option. Oral implants are screw-shaped, artificial tooth roots made of titanium or ceramic, to which single or multiple missing teeth can be attached. For static and hygienic reasons, it is essential for the long-term success of your implant-supported dentures that your dental implants are ideally positioned under your fixed prostheses. To achieve this, it is necessary to determine the shape and position of your future teeth together with you even before the implants are surgically placed. For this reason, the Departments of Prosthetic Dentistry, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, work closely together as an interdisciplinary team, virtually planning and performing your implant therapy from the very beginning.
After consultation, examination and data acquisition, an individual cost estimate will be provided depending on the scope of the required therapy.
Modern and individual patient care is our focus – we look forward to welcome you in our department!
