Whole-body MRI

Diagnostic Radiology

In routine clinical practice, whole-body MRI is used to screen, diagnose and monitor cancer (e.g. multiple myeloma) and is being incorporated into guidelines.

In addition, there is growing evidence from large population-based studies, such as NAKO Gesundheitsstudie in Germany or UK Biobank in the UK and clinical studies, that the technique can be used to detect and quantify cardiovascular and metabolic risks. For example, a whole-body MRI provides a detailed insight into the full body and may provide early detection of evident disease or more accurate assessment of cardiometabolic risk constellations. Notably, the exam is currently not recommended by current guidelines for healthy, asymptomatic individuals and will be performed as part of our research program.
