Penile Cancer: Diagnosis and Treatment

Penile cancer is a rare but serious malignant disease that affects the skin and tissues of the penis. It most commonly occurs in older men and is often associated with infection by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

Typical symptoms include:

  • persistent skin changes or lesions that do not heal
  • nodules or ulcers on the penis
  • pain or abnormal discharge

Early detection and timely initiation of treatment significantly improve the chances of cure and help preserve quality of life.

Diagnostic Methods

To ensure accurate diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment strategy, we provide comprehensive, specialized diagnostic evaluation for patients with penile carcinoma. The diagnostic evaluation includes:

  • Clinical examination and biopsy – for histological confirmation of the tumor
  • Ultrasound, MRI, and CT imaging – for assessing the extent of the tumor and identifying metastatic spread

Treatment Options

The treatment approach for penile cancer depends on the tumor stage, size, and degree of local or regional spread. We offer a broad range of therapeutic options, from organ-preserving procedures to comprehensive oncological treatment.

  • Laser therapy and local excision

Used for small, superficial tumors and allows preservation of penile anatomy and function.

  • Partial or total penectomy

Surgical removal of part or all of the penis for invasive or advanced disease.

  • Lymphadenectomy

Removal of regional lymph nodes when metastatic involvement is suspected.

  • Chemotherapy and radiation therapy

Applied in advanced or metastatic cases, and as part of multimodal treatment strategies.

Each case is evaluated individually by a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible therapeutic outcome and maintain the highest quality of life for the patient.

Prevention and Postoperative Care

We support patients throughout all stages of treatment and recovery:

  • Regular follow-up examinations to monitor therapeutic success and detect recurrences early
  • Preventive counseling, including recommendations on HPV vaccination and lifestyle modification
  • Personalized postoperative follow-up programs to support full recovery and improve long-term quality of life
