TACE - Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization

Interventional radiology and treatment

TACE (transarterial chemoembolization) means that the tumor receives, directly and if possible superselectively - i.e. without treating other tissue - high-dose local chemotherapy with additional tumor infarction (circulation minimization). The embolic particles are up to 40 microns in size.

This type of tumor treatment has a long history. However in Freiburg it is carried out using the latest techniques and materials and with very high expertise, in numerous therapeutic procedures, more than 200 times a year.

Highly successful results are achieved, most noticeably in the liver and especially liver cancers such as hepatocellular and cholangiocellular carcinoma, but also in metastases (secondary tumors) of renal cell carcinoma, hemangiopericytoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma. Most other metastases are suitable for SIRT (selective internal radiation therapy).
