Virtual Colonoscopy
Virtual colonoscopy (CT colonography) is a non-invasive method for detecting colorectal polyps and colon cancer. This procedure uses x-rays and allows visualisation of the whole colon.
Colorectal cancer accounts for nearly 30,000 deaths in Germany each year. Early detection and removal of colonic adenomas significantly reduces mortality rates from this disease.
Virtual colonoscopy is more comfortable than a conventional colonoscopy. The only disadvantage of the virtual colonoscopy is that radiologists cannot take a biopsy- tissue samples or remove polyps.
