Ultrasound Sonography

Our ultrasound laboratories in Freiburg and Bad Krozingen offer all the techniques of state-of-the-art vascular diagnostics outside the heart in conjunction with ultrasound, including color-coded duplex sonography. With more than 14 specially equipped work rooms, our duplex sonography is one of the largest non-invasive diagnostic units for arterial and venous vessels in Europe. Duplex sonography enables two- or three-dimensional imaging of vessels combined with measurements of blood flow velocity. This provides us with information about:

Clearly visible blood clot in the center of a vessel (see arrow)

  • Vascular occlusions
  • Vascular constrictions (stenoses)
  • Vascular dilatations (e.g. aneurysm)
  • the condition of the vessel wall, e.g. with regard to arteriosclerotic plaques
  • the presence of clots (e.g. thromboses)
  • organ damage adjacent to the vessel (e.g. edema formation, mass, malformation).

Depending on individual questions, further data such as the cardiovascular risk profile can be determined. In addition to routine diagnostics (currently more than 30,000 examinations per year), our team also carries out emergency examinations directly at the patient's bedside using state-of-the-art technology such as the blood cell-based B-flow imaging procedure. We also deal with scientific issues, e.g. the interplay of blood flow in larger arteries and veins down to the smallest microvessels and the organ and muscle function that depends on this.
