Professor Dr. Dr. Philipp T. Meyer

Professor Dr. Dr. Philipp T. Meyer is Medical Director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg and Professor of Nuclear Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. Since 2014, he has led the department and is internationally recognized for his expertise in molecular imaging and advanced nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapy (also called theranostics).

Professor Meyer studied Medicine at RWTH Aachen University (Germany) and the University of Pennsylvania (USA), graduating in 2000. He completed his medical doctorate, postdoctoral research, specialist training in Nuclear Medicine, and a second doctorate in Molecular Medicine at the University of Cologne before being appointed Professor and Medical Director at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg in 2014.

Research & Innovation

Professor Meyer is actively involved in translational research aimed at advancing precision medicine. His research focuses on molecular neuroimaging with PET and SPECT, the development and clinical evaluation of novel radiopharmaceuticals for neurological and oncological applications, and the advancement of hybrid imaging technologies and quantitative image analysis. His work is dedicated to translating scientific innovations into clinical practice to improve patient care.

An internationally recognized physician-scientist, Professor Meyer collaborates with leading national and international research networks, contributes to the development of clinical guidelines issued by national and international societies, and is committed to the education and training of future physicians and scientists. Combining extensive clinical experience, scientific excellence, and cutting-edge technology, he provides expert leadership in the diagnosis and personalized treatment of complex diseases using the latest advances in molecular imaging and theranostics.
