Specialized Surgical Techniques
Our department employs advanced surgical techniques in accordance with international standards. Minimally invasive and robotic-assisted technologies enable even complex procedures to be performed with exceptional precision, reduced risk, and faster recovery.
Minimally Invasive Techniques
- Laparoscopic surgery – surgical procedures performed through small incisions. This approach promotes faster healing, reduces postoperative pain, and minimizes scarring.
- Endoscopic procedures – operations performed via natural orifices or micro-incisions without the need for large surgical cuts. These techniques ensure gentle treatment and a short recovery period.
Robotic-Assisted Surgery
The Da Vinci Surgical System provides:
- highly precise instrument control,
- three-dimensional visualization of the surgical field,
- minimal tissue trauma and faster patient recovery.
This technology is particularly effective in uro-oncological surgery.
Surgical Expertise
- Prostatectomy – laparoscopic or robotic-assisted removal of the prostate for prostate cancer
- Nephrectomy – removal of the kidney for renal cell carcinoma (minimally invasive or robotic-assisted)
- Cystectomy – removal of the bladder for bladder cancer, including the creation of alternative urinary diversion pathways
Preoperative Preparation and Postoperative Follow-Up
- Preoperative consultations – detailed patient information and preparation prior to surgery
- Postoperative monitoring – regular follow-up examinations to assess healing and detect potential complications at an early stage
- Rehabilitation – comprehensive support during recovery to enable a rapid return to an active life
Advanced technologies, the high level of surgical expertise, and an individualized approach to each patient make the Department of Urology at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg one of the leading European centers for complex urological surgery.
