Second Opinion on PET/CT
A second opinion on PET/CT is an independent expert review of positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT), performed by highly qualified specialists at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
A review of the examination can help confirm or clarify a diagnosis, assess the extent of a disease and the effectiveness of treatment, and provide recommendations for further diagnostic evaluation.
A second opinion on PET/CT can be obtained remotely. Patients only need to provide the PET/CT images and relevant medical documentation. Specialists at the Medical Center - University Freiburg will review the examination, prepare a written report, and, if necessary, answer additional questions.
When Should You Consider a Second Opinion on PET/CT and Why Is It Important?
PET/CT is one of the most advanced diagnostic imaging methods available today. It is used in the diagnosis and management of many oncological diseases, as well as in cardiology and neurology. However, the accuracy and clinical value of the examination depend not only on the quality of the imaging technology but also on the experience and expertise of the physician interpreting the images.
A second opinion on PET/CT may be particularly useful if:
- the examination results are unclear or require further clarification;
- the reports of different specialists differ;
- confirmation of a diagnosis is needed before starting treatment;
- the response to treatment needs to be assessed;
- there is a suspicion of disease recurrence;
- further diagnostic or treatment decisions need to be made;
- the patient wishes to obtain an independent expert opinion from specialists at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg.
A second opinion can be particularly valuable in oncology, where PET/CT findings may directly influence the choice of treatment. At the Medical Center - University of Freiburg, specialists also provide expert review of various types of PET/CT examinations, including PSMA PET/CT, which is used for the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of prostate cancer.
Even when an examination has been performed correctly, an additional expert review of the images may help confirm the initial interpretation, clarify findings, or identify details that may be relevant to further diagnostic and treatment decisions.
As part of its teleradiology service, the Medical Center - University of Freiburg offers remote expert review of PET/CT examinations. Studies performed within the previous three months are accepted for review.
Images can be transferred online directly to the radiology clinic's secure server. To obtain access details, please contact telemedicine-ims@uniklinik-freiburg.de. Images can also be transferred using secure file-sharing services.
After reviewing the images and medical documentation, the patient receives a detailed written report. In most cases, the report is prepared within five working days. An expedited review is also available if required.
