Professor Dr. Dr. Kilian Eyerich is a leading dermatologist and physician-scientist with extensive clinical and scientific expertise in inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases, molecular dermatology, and personalized medicine. Since November 2021, he has served as Medical Director of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg and as Professor of Dermatology and Venereology at the University of Freiburg.
Professor Eyerich studied medicine at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he also completed his medical doctorate. From 2014 to 2021, he held a prestigious Heisenberg Professorship of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at TUM. From 2019 to 2021, he also served as Professor at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
Professor Eyerich has particular clinical and scientific expertise in inflammatory skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Under his leadership, the Department of Dermatology and Venereology provides comprehensive, highly specialized care across the full spectrum of dermatological and venereological conditions. Major clinical areas include skin cancer and melanoma, inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases, allergies, hereditary and congenital skin disorders, chronic wounds, and other complex dermatological conditions. The department combines advanced diagnostics with individualized systemic and topical therapies, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, laser therapy, and surgical dermatology.

Research & Innovation
Professor Eyerich leads a translational research program focused on understanding the molecular and immunological mechanisms underlying chronic inflammatory skin diseases. A major focus of his research is the interaction between immune cells and tissue cells in inflammatory skin diseases and the use of these insights to develop precise molecular diagnostics and improve therapeutic decision-making.
His scientific work investigates shared molecular mechanisms across inflammatory skin diseases that may present very differently in clinical practice. By identifying molecular similarities and disease-specific biomarkers, his research aims to refine disease classification, improve diagnostic precision, and enable more targeted and personalized treatment strategies.
A particular focus of Professor Eyerich's work is the translation of molecular discoveries into clinical practice. He holds several patents, including a molecular diagnostic method that distinguishes atopic dermatitis from psoriasis and supports targeted treatment decisions based on molecular markers.
Combining clinical dermatology, immunology, and molecular research, Professor Eyerich's work contributes to the advancement of precision medicine in dermatology and the development of more individualized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients with inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases.
