Professor Dr. med. Andreas Knopf is a leading German specialist in otorhinolaryngology (ENT), head and neck surgery, and reconstructive oncologic surgery. Since April 2019, he has served as Medical Director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg. Prior to his appointment in Freiburg, he held several senior leadership positions at the Technical University of Munich, including Senior Physician and Deputy Director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar.
Professor Knopf studied Human Medicine at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and completed his specialist training in otorhinolaryngology at leading German university hospitals.
His clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of modern otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and advanced reconstructive procedures. Professor Knopf is particularly known for his expertise in organ-preserving tumor surgery, reconstructive soft tissue surgery, salivary gland surgery, and nasal and sinus surgery. A major focus of his work is the treatment of head and neck cancers while preserving essential functions such as speech, swallowing, and breathing whenever possible.

Research & Innovation
Professor Knopf is actively involved in translational and clinical research aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck diseases. His scientific work focuses on the molecular mechanisms of metastasis and tumor recurrence, the molecular characterization of salivary gland tumors, and clinical studies evaluating functional and organ-preserving approaches in tumor and soft tissue surgery. He is also involved in research exploring the use of artificial intelligence for the diagnosis and diagnostic classification of salivary gland diseases.
His research contributes to the development of more precise, personalized, and function-preserving treatment strategies for patients with head and neck tumors.
