Diagnosis: severe hearing loss
Christian has struggled with severe hearing loss since early childhood. His first treatment involved powerful hearing aids, but they provided little improvement. Much of his early life was shaped by frustration and isolation.
As he grew older, Christian received two cochlear implants. For the first time in his life, he was able to hear clearly. He had to relearn how to speak – almost from the beginning. Since then, he has been under the ongoing care of specialists at the Cochlear Implant Center at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg.
Today, Christian has made his dream come true: he works as a bus and tram driver – one of the first in southern Germany to do so with two cochlear implants. He also helps ensure safety and order during SC Freiburg’s football matches at the stadium.
