“The Medical Center - University of Freiburg is a place where lives are saved because of the skilled medical staff, cutting-edge technology, the latest research and its prompt application for patients.”
Olena Severin, 62 years old, Ukraine
Diagnosis: polycystic ovary syndrome, pancreatic carcinoma
In 2014, Olena Severin first came to the Medical Center – University of Freiburg. Here is what she says about her treatment experience over the past 10 years:
"My introduction to the clinic began back in 2014 with the Gynecology Department under the direction of Professor Dr. Gitsch. The consultation lasted about 20 minutes, and I was very happy to receive a positive response to my problem. Instead of removing my ovaries and reproductive organs, as was suggested in Kyiv, Professor Gitsch said that this was not necessary and recommended annual check-ups.
My second visit to the clinic in August 2016 was related to a much more serious problem: in Kyiv, I was diagnosed with pancreatic carcinoma. Three days later, I was already having a consultation with Professor Dr. Ulrich Hopt. On the same day, the diagnosis was confirmed, and the Professor suggested surgery to remove the tumor in two days. Fortunately, as Professor Hopt noted, the tumor was operable. A long surgery and six months of adjuvant chemotherapy followed.
In 2017, there was a recurrence, and I underwent another course of chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy in Professor Dr. Grosu’s department. Until 2020, I had regular check-ups under the supervision of Professor Dr. Bertz.
In 2020, in the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endocrinology, and Infectious diseases, headed by Professor Robert Timme, MD, PhD, I had gallstones removed from my bile ducts I cannot but express my deep gratitude to the wonderful doctor in this department, Professor Fantenberg, who always responds to patients' requests and brings a lot of positivity.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the doctors who saved my life. Statistically, only 5-7% of people with my diagnosis survive.
And, of course, special thanks to the managers of the International Medical Services Department, who always greet me with empathy and handle everything seamlessly, from meeting me at the airport and arranging accommodations to scheduling doctors' appointments.
My favorite assistants and friends – Dima Babak, Sasha Roizen, all the girls at the reception, and everyone who helped me in the absence of Dima and Sasha.
A special thank you to Maria Onyshchenko-Dubow, the head of the Marketing Department.
My warmest thanks to Denis, the head of Transport Services, who is an example of intelligence and punctuality in everything he does.
I am deeply grateful to Maria Barabash, a professional interpreter and an amazing person, who was always by my side at all meetings with doctors and during all surgeries.
I would like to say that MY BELOVED Medical Center – University of Freiburg is a place where true miracles happen and lives are saved because of the skilled medical staff, cutting-edge technology, the latest research and its prompt application for patients, effective teamwork among all the doctors, and a commitment to each patient's unique needs.
I've been in remission since 2019 and continue to be monitored at my trusted clinic.”
