The Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg (CCCF) combines cancer expertise from across the Medical Center – University of Freiburg. Experts from different medical disciplines work together to diagnose and treat cancer according to current medical standards, using state-of-the-art technologies and, where appropriate, innovative therapies and clinical trials.

What is a tumor board?
At CCCF, 26 disease-specific tumor boards are held every week across its specialized cancer centers. These multidisciplinary meetings bring together experts involved in cancer diagnosis and treatment, including specialists in oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology and radiation oncology, as well as other disciplines depending on the type of cancer.
A patient’s case may be discussed at several stages of care, including at initial diagnosis, before and after surgery, if the disease progresses, or if the cancer returns. Treatment recommendations are developed collaboratively and in accordance with the latest clinical guidelines.
If a cancer no longer responds to standard guideline-based treatments, the case may be reviewed by the Molecular Tumor Board. Physicians and scientists analyze the molecular and genetic characteristics of the tumor and work together to identify potential personalized treatment approaches.
Each year, CCCF specialists discuss more than 15,000 patient cases in over 1,000 tumor board meetings, providing an interdisciplinary perspective on diagnosis and treatment decisions.
