Male Sterilization – Vasectomy

A vasectomy is a safe and highly effective surgical method of permanent male contraception. The procedure involves the planned division and occlusion of the vas deferens, thereby preventing sperm from entering the ejaculate. Sexual potency, libido, hormonal balance, and sexual activity are preserved.

Deciding to undergo a vasectomy is an important and personal decision. Our role is to provide you with comprehensive information and professional guidance to support a well-informed and carefully considered choice.

Consultation and Preoperative Assessment

  • Personal consultation – detailed explanation of the procedure, its benefits, potential risks, and alternative contraceptive methods; individualized counseling to support decision-making
  • Preoperative evaluation – physical examination and, if required, additional tests to assess suitability for the procedure

The Procedure

  • Outpatient intervention – performed under local anesthesia; duration approximately 15–30 minutes
  • Surgical technique – both no-scalpel vasectomy (minimally traumatic) and conventional scalpel techniques are used, depending on individual circumstances

Postoperative Care and Follow-Up

  • Recovery – 1–2 days of rest are usually sufficient; mild swelling or discomfort may occur and can be effectively managed with analgesics and cold compresses
  • Follow-up examination – semen analysis is performed 8–12 weeks after the procedure to confirm the absence of sperm; alternative contraception must be used until sterility is confirmed
  • Long-term follow-up – routine long-term follow-up is generally not required; however, our specialists remain available at any time should questions arise

Benefits and Important Considerations

Benefits

  • high reliability and effectiveness
  • no impact on libido, erectile function, or ejaculation

Important Considerations

  • vasectomy is considered a permanent method of contraception
  • restoration of fertility (vasectomy reversal) is technically possible but involves complex microsurgery and does not guarantee success
  • the decision should be made carefully and regarded as definitive
