Tissue-Sparing and Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally invasive technologies are now considered the modern standard of care and have undergone significant advancements in recent years. At our Department of Urology, we place a strong emphasis on tissue-sparing surgical techniques that combine high therapeutic efficacy with minimal physiological stress for the patient.

Procedures are performed through small incisions, which allows us to:

  • significantly reduce blood loss,
  • lower the risk of complications,
  • minimize postoperative pain,
  • accelerate recovery and shorten hospital stay.

Minimally invasive techniques include laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries, which are used to treat a wide range of urological conditions, such as:

  • urolithiasis (including kidney and ureteral stones),
  • benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH),
  • kidney tumors,
  • prostate cancer.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic procedures are performed through small incisions using miniature instruments and high-resolution video cameras that provide excellent visualization of the surgical field. This approach enables surgeons to carry out complex operations while minimizing surgical trauma.

Common laparoscopic procedures include:

  • Nephrectomy (removal of the kidney),
  • Radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate gland).

Endoscopic Techniques

Endoscopic procedures are performed via natural body openings without external incisions. These include:

  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP),
  • Laser-assisted removal of ureteral and kidney stones.

Laser surgery is among the most tissue-sparing technologies available in modern urology.

  • Holmium laser lithotripsy – precise and safe fragmentation of kidney and ureteral stones to facilitate removal or spontaneous passage.
  • Laser enucleation of the prostate (e.g., HoLEP) – an advanced treatment option for benign prostatic hyperplasia, offering minimal complication rates and excellent functional outcomes. Hyperplastic prostate tissue is removed with minimal blood loss, ensuring a safe procedure and rapid recovery.

Advantages of Minimally Invasive Surgery

  • Minimal tissue trauma
  • Reduced postoperative pain
  • Faster recovery and shorter hospitalization
  • Low risk of complications and scarring
